Twenty-three cyber fraudsters have been apprehended by the Gurugram cyber police over the past two months for allegedly deceiving numerous individuals across the country of more than ₹32 crore, an official revealed on Tuesday.
“A total of 8,565 complaints and 274 cases have been lodged against the accused in different parts of the country. Among these, 16 cases are filed in Haryana, including four cases in Gurugram,” stated Priyanshu Dewan, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the cyber crime unit.
The police have seized 15 mobile phones, four SIM cards, and a laptop from the possessions of the accused. They were involved in scamming people under the guise of investment opportunities, electricity bill payments, as well as through extortion, loan apps, and fake identities on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
“Upon analyzing the data from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C), authorities discovered that these 23 cyber criminals have swindled individuals of ₹32.08 crores nationwide. We have already reimbursed over ₹77 lakhs to the victims of cyber fraud. Further inquiries into the case are currently ongoing,” added ACP Dewan.
The suspects, who were detained within the last two months, were identified as Abhishek, Ritik, Vipul Haldar, Anrul Islam, Siraz Mia, Govind Jha, Harpal, Sachin Kumar, Vishnu Panwar, Digvijay, Suraj, Arjun Prasad, Suraj Shrivastav alias Sanjay, Sonu Kumar, Gurdeep, Ladduram, Neelam Kumari, Manoj, Kushal Meena, Dhara Singh Meena, Naveen, Shankar Kumar, and Anthony, as per the information provided by the police.
The accused were involved in perpetrating fraudulent activities through various means, taking advantage of unsuspecting victims through online platforms. Their apprehension marks a significant victory for law enforcement in the ongoing battle against cybercrime.
