Twenty-nine members of the Himachal Pradesh Police force have successfully passed the cyber commando test, a rigorous examination that serves as the gateway for cops to undergo specialized cyber commando training.
The national-level exam, organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs on February 11, saw a total of 3,093 police personnel from different regions of the state participate. Ultimately, only 1,042 individuals from various parts of the country managed to qualify for the cyber commando training program. This included 15 candidates from Delhi, 13 from Haryana, eight from Punjab, and two from Chandigarh.
The primary objective of the cyber commando training program is to equip law enforcement officers with the necessary skills to combat cybercrime effectively and strengthen national security measures. These trained commandos will be crucial in safeguarding the nation’s cyber infrastructure and responding promptly to potential cyber threats.
Mohit Chawla, the Deputy Inspector General of State CID Cybercrime, highlighted that the previous year had seen 12 officers from the Himachal Pradesh Police selected for the cyber commando program. The newly selected officers will undergo six months of intensive training in cybersecurity and technology at various prestigious institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Chawla emphasized that this specialized training would enhance the officers’ capabilities and contribute to efforts aimed at bolstering cyber security measures. He expressed pride in the accomplishments of the selected officers and extended his best wishes for their future endeavors. Additionally, Chawla urged citizens to remain vigilant, refrain from clicking on unknown or suspicious links or websites, and avoid sharing personal or financial information with anyone.
Citizens were also advised to report any incidents of cybercrime immediately to the toll-free helpline number 1930. Currently, the state has received approximately 400 complaints related to cybercrime, with a significant number of cases involving digital fraud.
The successful qualification of these police personnel in the cyber commando test signifies a significant step towards enhancing the state’s cybersecurity infrastructure and safeguarding against digital threats.
