In a significant development as part of the ongoing ‘Operation Cyber Shield’, the Rajasthan Police made a breakthrough on Saturday, January 11, 2025, by apprehending 30 suspected cyber fraudsters during coordinated raids at 40 locations within Jaipur. These individuals were believed to have engaged in fraudulent activities worth an estimated ₹30 crore, deceiving unsuspecting victims through various means.

Aside from perpetrating fraudulent schemes, these cybercriminals were also said to be grooming a new generation of fraudsters to carry out scams using innovative techniques. Among the offenders were members of eight criminal syndicates, including two juveniles who were taken into custody.

A statement from Deputy Commissioner of Police (Jaipur West) Amit Kumar revealed that some of the accused had posed as monks and astrologers, luring individuals with promises of performing spiritual rituals in exchange for money. Additionally, one perpetrator, a 25-year-old from Kheda Kumbholav village in Tonk district, had reportedly acquired training in cyber fraud operations in Sri Lanka.

The Cyber Crime Branch of the Rajasthan Police initiated ‘Operation Cyber Shield’ on January 2 as a specialized effort to combat cybercrimes, apprehend culprits, and educate the public on digital security. The primary objective of this initiative is to dismantle the network facilitating organized cyber-enabled financial crimes within the state and combat the escalating cyber threats.

During the operations, Mr. Kumar’s team uncovered evidence of fraudulent activities amounting to ₹30 crore and froze 135 bank accounts, 64 unified payments interfaces, and 20 automated teller machines linked to these transactions. Seized materials included laptops, mobile phones, ATM cards, WiFi routers, CCTV cameras, HDMI cables, bank documents, cheque books, and passports.

The accused individuals are facing charges under the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act, with cases registered at various police stations in Jaipur. According to Mr. Kumar, incidents of cyber fraud have been on the rise in Rajasthan, particularly involving digital deception, online gambling, and large-scale financial swindling, with elderly individuals and women being the most targeted demographics.

The anti-cybercrime campaign has prioritized the swift resolution of fraud cases, the prompt handling of public complaints, and the dissemination of cybersecurity awareness among the populace. The Cyber Crime Branch is actively conducting ‘hotspot mapping’ to identify and monitor high-risk zones for potential cybercrimes.

The concerted efforts of the Rajasthan Police in combating cyber fraud underscore a proactive stance toward safeguarding citizens from digital threats and ensuring the swift apprehension of cybercriminals. By dismantling criminal networks and raising awareness on cybersecurity, law enforcement aims to create a safer digital environment for all residents of the state.
