NCSC Launches SilentGlass Device to Safeguard Monitors Against Cyber-Attacks

The UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has introduced an innovative technology aimed at safeguarding video connections from potential cyber threats. The product, named SilentGlass, was launched on April 22 during CYBERUK, the UK government’s premier annual cybersecurity conference.

SilentGlass is a plug-and-play device specifically engineered to actively block any unexpected or malicious interference between HDMI or display port connections and monitors. It has been certified for use in environments with the highest cybersecurity threats, showcasing its robustness and reliability.

The device has already been effectively implemented within various governmental estates, and following its successful deployment, SilentGlass is now available for purchase by the general public. This marks a significant step in making advanced cybersecurity measures accessible to a broader audience.

The NCSC partnered with Goldilock Labs and Sony UK to manufacture and distribute SilentGlass worldwide. This collaboration not only facilitates global sales but also highlights the integration of public sector intelligence with private sector innovation to provide meaningful solutions against cyber threats.

### Monitors: A Vulnerable Point in Cybersecurity

The NCSC has emphasized that monitors can serve as attractive targets for cybercriminals due to their role in displaying and processing valuable, sensitive, or personal information. According to the agency, this presents cyber threat actors with opportunities to exploit monitor access to infiltrate networks for malicious purposes, ranging from disruption to financial exploitation. The lack of effective security measures in this domain has made it a gap in many organizations’ cyber defenses.

SilentGlass was strategically devised to help mitigate this specific vulnerability. Ollie Whitehouse, the Chief Technology Officer at NCSC, stated, “Display screens and monitors are ubiquitous in today’s business landscapes, and the SilentGlass device will contribute significantly to the protection of previously vulnerable IT infrastructures with unprecedented ease.” He highlighted that the product’s development and commercialization demonstrate the substantial impact the NCSC can have in collaboration with industry partners.

Whitehouse also noted the importance of launching a UK-developed product onto the global stage, reinforcing national prosperity through innovation.

Goldilock Labs, a small UK-based firm recognized for its expertise in cybersecurity innovation, was awarded the contract to manufacture SilentGlass after undergoing a competitive selection process. Stephen Kines, co-founder of Goldilock Labs, remarked, “SilentGlass addresses a gap that has been largely overlooked. The hardware interfaces that people rely on daily have rarely been treated as security boundaries, despite the risks posed by supply chains, third-party servicing, and direct physical access.” He added that technology previously reserved for national security contexts is now being adapted for low-cost, easily deployable solutions suitable for Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and businesses facing similar vulnerabilities.

Both Goldilock Labs and Sony, in collaboration with the NCSC, anticipate a swift global adoption of SilentGlass by governments and organizations that prioritize security. The NCSC has pointed to SilentGlass as an exemplary case of how governmental intellectual property can be successfully commercialized, showcasing the strength of this public-private partnership.

The ongoing CYBERUK conference, now in its tenth year, served as a venue for critical discussions on evolving cyber threats. The 2026 edition of the conference is set to take place in Glasgow, Scotland. It commenced with a compelling address by Richard Horne, CEO of the NCSC, who underscored the pressing challenges posed by a “perfect storm” of emerging technologies and geopolitical tensions contributing to unprecedented cyber threats facing the UK.
