In a recent report released by Checkmarx, it has been found that application security (AppSec) is playing an increasingly crucial role in closing new business and shaping organizational processes. The report, titled “Global CISO Survey: The Growing Impact of AppSec on Business,” is based on the survey responses of 200 CISOs and other senior security executives worldwide in March of this year.

One of the key findings of the study is that 84% of CISOs reported being called into sales engagements to help close sales of their company’s products and services. This highlights the connection between AppSec and business growth. Prospects are increasingly considering the level of application security when making purchase decisions, with 96% of CISOs confirming this. This indicates that organizations need to prioritize application security to remain competitive in the market.

Furthermore, the study revealed that 77% of CISOs estimate that their companies are running at least half of their businesses on applications for which internal teams must ensure security. As enterprises undergo digital transformation initiatives and rely more on complex applications for their digital business, CISOs are in need of better risk management strategies and consolidation of security alerts and dashboards. This consolidation allows them to prioritize their developers’ remediation tasks effectively.

Checkmarx CEO, Sandeep Johri, emphasized the importance of AppSec in sales engagements and board discussions. CISOs are now expected to demonstrate the security of their company’s products and services. To meet these rising demands, Checkmarx has developed the cloud-native Checkmarx One Application Security Platform, which provides comprehensive security solutions for businesses.

The report also highlighted that the banking and financial services industry is more frequently confronted with the request for AppSec considerations in purchase decisions compared to other industries. Around 50% of CISOs in this sector reported that AppSec was strongly considered when making purchasing decisions. In contrast, only 24% of CISOs in the industrial and manufacturing industry reported the same. However, there is a growing trend across all industries, especially industrial and manufacturing, for prospects to inquire about the level of application security before making a purchase.

To access the full report, interested parties can visit the Checkmarx website. The report provides valuable insights into the current state of AppSec and its impact on businesses. Additionally, Checkmarx will be showcasing their solutions at booth #2540 at the upcoming Black Hat event.

The survey, conducted online by an independent survey company, included a mix of CISOs, CSOs, CIOs, Deputy CISOs, Deputy CSOs, and Deputy CIOs from companies across various industries and regions. The respondents were approached by the research panel and invited via email to participate. Measures were taken to prevent order bias in answering non-numerical questions.
