CybeReady emphasizes five essential defenses against Black Friday cybercrime surge

CybeReady, a global leader in security awareness training, has identified five critical measures to combat the anticipated surge in cybercriminal activity coinciding with Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. The company aims to protect personal and corporate data integrity during this peak online shopping season.

The company warns that the period from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday is known for an increase in cybercriminal tactics. This year, there has been a noticeable rise in reported fraudulent activities, indicating unprecedented risks associated with email scams, ransomware, e-commerce infrastructure attacks, and data skimming.

In an effort to safeguard organizations and individuals during this elevated threat landscape, CybeReady recommends five essential defenses. Firstly, the company emphasizes the need for in-depth cyber risk assessments to ensure the integrity of the digital environment. These assessments should include thorough checks on e-commerce platforms for potential vulnerabilities, such as outdated software or insecure data transfer channels.

Secondly, the company stresses the importance of a tailored cybersecurity plan specifically for Black Friday. This plan calls for collaboration between marketing and security teams to improve website security and facilitate authentic customer communication.

Thirdly, CybeReady advocates for comprehensive automated data security and compliance monitoring through automated security tools to identify and respond to threats in real-time. It is also advised to use AI-driven systems for abnormal access pattern detection.

Fourthly, the company emphasizes the necessity of regular updates of web applications and plugins to mitigate risks by closing known vulnerabilities and preventing attacks.

The toolkit recommends certain safety habits to employees, such as typing URLs manually, using official shopping applications, checking for secure website markers such as a lock next to a URL, using safe third-party payment methods, avoiding clicking on links in after-purchase communications, and regularly checking financial accounts for any unsolicited transactions.
