INTERPOL, the largest international police organization, has recently completed a major operation targeting the infrastructure behind malicious activities such as phishing, malware, and ransomware attacks. This operation, named “Synergia,” spanned over three months from September to November 2023 and involved the collaboration of 60 law enforcement agencies across more than 50 countries.

The primary aim of this global operation was to combat complex and cross-border criminal activities using advanced technical tools and methodologies for investigations and interventions. The operation successfully identified 1,300 suspicious websites and servers linked to cybercrime, with 70% of these servers being taken down, thereby disrupting their operations. Additionally, 31 individuals were arrested, and 70 more suspects were identified as part of the operation.

One of the significant aspects of Operation “Synergia” was the participation of countries across continents, demonstrating a global effort to combat cybercrime. From Europe and Asia to Africa and South America, the operation saw collaboration on an international scale.

Furthermore, the operation involved conducting house searches and seizures of equipment, as well as collaboration with private sector partners. Tech giants like Kaspersky and TrendMicro provided crucial intelligence and support, further strengthening the efforts of law enforcement agencies.

Assistant Director “Bernardo Pillot” at INTERPOL Cyber Crime expressed satisfaction with the results of the operation, emphasizing the collective efforts of multiple countries and partners. According to Pillot, the operation’s outcomes demonstrate a steadfast commitment to safeguarding the digital space. By dismantling the infrastructure behind phishing, banking malware, and ransomware attacks, the operation has brought the digital ecosystems one step closer to being protected, offering a safer and more secure online experience for all.

The successful outcome of “Synergia” highlights the significance of international collaboration in combating cyber threats, and it serves as a beacon of hope for a safer online environment. The operation’s impact reaches far beyond the immediate results, demonstrating the resolve of global law enforcement agencies to address the challenges posed by cybercrime.

In conclusion, INTERPOL’s operation “Synergia” is a pivotal milestone in the fight against cyber threats, showcasing the power of international cooperation in tackling complex criminal activities. As cyber threats continue to evolve, the need for global collaboration and advanced technical tools becomes increasingly paramount in safeguarding the digital space for everyone.
