GitLab, a leading software development platform, has unveiled a host of new innovations aimed at streamlining the software development process for organizations. The company announced the launch of GitLab Duo Enterprise, an end-to-end AI add-on that combines developer-focused AI capabilities with enterprise-focused AI capabilities.

The GitLab Duo Enterprise features include organizational privacy controls, code suggestions, chat functionalities, and the ability to proactively detect and fix security vulnerabilities. This new add-on also offers tools to summarize issue discussions and merge requests, resolve CI/CD bottlenecks and failures, and enhance team collaboration. Additionally, organizations will have access to an AI impact dashboard and value stream forecasting capability to gain insights into the usage of AI features and their impact on software development lifecycle metrics.

One of the standout features of GitLab Duo Enterprise is the ability for organizations to customize the AI model with context from their software projects for personalized results. For organizations that require self-hosted model deployments due to secure, air-gapped environments, GitLab Duo Enterprise provides that option. The new add-on will be available to Ultimate customers in the coming months.

In addition to GitLab Duo Enterprise, the company also introduced a new CI/CD catalog to help organizations streamline workflows and improve efficiency. The centralized portal allows customers to discover, reuse, and contribute pre-built CI/CD components. Organizations can also create private catalogs to distribute customized pipelines without compromising security.

GitLab has also announced upcoming capabilities for GitLab 17, including a Native Secrets Manager for storing sensitive credentials, GitLab Dedicated on Google Cloud for complex compliance requirements, Static Application Security Testing (SAST) integrations, product analytics features, observability capabilities, and enterprise agile planning features.

James Governor, co-founder of RedMonk, emphasized the importance of integrated platforms for successful adoption of DevOps and DevSecOps. He noted that GitLab 17 offers an end-to-end platform that caters to software developers, operators, product managers, and machine learning teams. The Duo Enterprise add-on aims to reduce friction across different roles and business functions using generative AI.

David DeSanto, Chief Product Officer at GitLab, highlighted the platform’s commitment to revolutionizing software development by leveraging a comprehensive DevSecOps approach. GitLab 17, according to DeSanto, paves the way for AI-driven innovation by breaking down silos, automating tasks, and ensuring security and compliance from the start.

Overall, GitLab’s new innovations aim to empower organizations to develop, build, secure, and deploy software faster and more efficiently. With the introduction of GitLab Duo Enterprise and the new CI/CD catalog, organizations can expect a more streamlined and collaborative software development process.
