ESET World 2024, a conference that brought together cybersecurity professionals, analysts, and decision-makers, highlighted the company’s vision and technological advancements. The event featured insightful talks on the latest trends in cybersecurity and beyond, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI).

The conference kicked off with ESET’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Juraj Malcho discussing the challenges and opportunities presented by AI. He delved into the revolutionary aspects of AI and its potential impact on cybersecurity. Malcho emphasized the need to define how AI can be leveraged to enhance security capabilities and simplify cyber defense processes.

Director of Artificial Intelligence at ESET, Juraj Jánošík, and Sr. Manager of Advanced Threat Detection and AI, Filip Mazán, gave a comprehensive overview of AI and machine learning. They explored the biological basis of AI networks and the complexity of artificial neural networks. Mazán highlighted the importance of leaner AI models for faster and more accurate threat detection.

The discussion then delved into the limitations of current AI technology, including explainability, transparency, and the potential for hallucinations in generative AI models. These limitations underscore the need for human oversight and refinement in AI operations to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Global Cybersecurity Advisor at ESET, Jake Moore, showcased the capabilities of AI tools in cloning RFID cards, hacking CCTVs, and creating convincing deepfakes. Moore demonstrated how easy it is to compromise business security using AI-driven techniques, highlighting the importance of vigilance and scrutiny in online interactions to combat the dangers of deepfakes.

The final session of the conference featured a panel discussion with Jánošík, Mazán, and Moore, moderated by Victoria Pavlova. The panelists discussed the current state of AI, emphasizing the need for further refinement and awareness of AI capabilities. They addressed concerns about the misuse of AI for malicious activities and the importance of data privacy in AI applications.

Overall, the conference underscored the opportunities and challenges posed by AI in cybersecurity. The speakers emphasized the need for responsible AI use, ongoing refinement of AI models, and heightened awareness of the potential risks associated with AI technology. As businesses navigate the evolving landscape of AI, it is crucial to prioritize data privacy, transparency, and ethical use of AI tools to ensure a secure and resilient cybersecurity environment.
