Proofpoint CEO Dhawan recently discussed the company’s approach to Data Security Posture Management (DSPM), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and human-centric cybersecurity solutions in a video interview with Information Security Media Group. In the interview, Dhawan emphasized the importance of managing data at rest, especially as more enterprises transition their data to the cloud.

Dhawan highlighted the significance of safeguarding data in motion and at rest, stating that modern applications with generative AI capabilities require businesses to discover, classify, and secure data wherever it resides. To address this need, Proofpoint recently acquired data security startup Normalyze to integrate data security posture management, endpoint data loss prevention, and compliance into a unified platform.

Unlike competitors that offer separate solutions for data security, Proofpoint aims to provide customers with a comprehensive data security solution that includes data discovery, classification, security, leakage prevention, and compliance supervision. Dhawan emphasized that Proofpoint’s goal is to offer a holistic approach to data security, rather than focusing on winning in the DSPM market.

During the interview, Dhawan also discussed Proofpoint’s integration of Tessian’s tools for accidental data loss prevention and evolving email threats, as well as the company’s pursuit of AI-driven enhancements for threat prevention and detection. He noted that adversaries are expanding their cyber activities to new regions and languages, highlighting the evolving nature of cybersecurity threats.

As the CEO of Proofpoint, Dhawan leads a global workforce dedicated to defending organizations against advanced cyber threats and compliance risks. With over 25 years of experience in scaled enterprise software companies, Dhawan previously served as president of VMware, where he was responsible for driving significant revenue growth and leading the company’s go-to-market functions.

Overall, Dhawan’s discussion sheds light on Proofpoint’s strategic approach to data security, AI-driven cybersecurity solutions, and the evolving threat landscape facing organizations today. By focusing on integration, comprehensive data security, and innovation in threat prevention, Proofpoint aims to empower customers with the tools and resources needed to protect their data and sensitive information in an increasingly complex digital environment.
