Three Russian nationals involved in operating cryptocurrency mixing services Blender.io and Sinbad.io have been indicted in the Northern District of Georgia. Roman Vitalyevich Ostapenko and Alexander Evgenievich Oleynik were arrested on December 1, 2024, after investigations led to the seizure of Sinbad.io’s online infrastructure by authorities from the Netherlands, Finland, and the FBI.
The third defendant, Anton Vyachlavovich Tarasov, is currently evading authorities and remains at large, adding a layer of complexity to the case. After Blender.io’s shutdown, Sinbad.io emerged as a successor, offering similar services to conceal Bitcoin transactions. However, law enforcement actions led to Sinbad.io’s takedown in November 2023, marking another blow to the illicit cryptocurrency mixing industry.
The charges against the individuals involved include conspiracy to commit money laundering and operating an unlicensed money transmitting business.
