Aviat Networks has recently announced enhancements to its Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) process and Software Vulnerability Alert (SVA) service in an effort to bolster the security of its software and firmware development process to align with the latest cybersecurity requirements.

With the rise in vulnerabilities, threats, and cyber attacks, SSDLC and SVA have become indispensable tools for safeguarding critical communications networks against software security threats.

Aviat’s SSDLC is a methodical process aimed at enhancing cybersecurity for all Aviat products. This process, validated by independent 3rd parties, incorporates security measures at every phase of the software lifecycle, from conception and design to coding, testing, and maintenance. The goal is to proactively identify and address vulnerabilities to ensure robust security measures are in place.

In line with best practices advocated by internationally recognized organizations like OWASP, Aviat will adopt the latest secure software principles to ensure consistent vulnerability management, continuous security enhancement, and the delivery of safer software solutions.

Additionally, the Software Vulnerability Alert (SVA) service will provide added value by issuing proactive notifications to Aviat customers regarding any potential impact from “common vulnerability/exposures” (CVE) identified by the renowned MITRE Corporation, a non-profit organization supported by the US Department of Homeland Security.

Aviat will conduct nightly scans of ProVision and ProVision Plus Management software source code using 3rd-party tools and promptly inform SVA subscribers within 24 hours upon detecting any significant or critical CVE. Customers will also receive recommended mitigation steps or a software patch to address the identified vulnerabilities.

Pete Smith, CEO of Aviat Networks, emphasized the company’s commitment to prioritizing the security of its customers’ networks. He expressed satisfaction in implementing these new cybersecurity measures to uphold the integrity of Aviat’s products and software, believing that the enhanced service will offer an additional layer of protection and reassurance to customers.

Through the combined implementation of SSDLC and SVA notifications, Aviat seeks to instill confidence and peace of mind among operators by actively protecting Aviat management systems against known cybersecurity threats on a continuous basis.

Overall, Aviat Networks’ proactive approach to cybersecurity underscores its dedication to providing reliable and secure solutions for critical communications networks, ensuring that customers can trust in the integrity and resilience of their systems in the face of evolving cyber threats.
