MD Now Urgent Care has recently notified the Attorney General of Massachusetts about a data breach that occurred as a result of a cyberattack on one of its IT systems in May 2024. Following the discovery of unauthorized access to its systems, MD Now launched an investigation to assess the extent of the breach and the potential compromise of sensitive personal and health information.

The investigation revealed that a criminal may have gained access to personal data in early May 2024, including information such as names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, government-issued ID numbers, financial details, and medical records. This range of compromised data poses significant privacy and security risks for affected individuals, necessitating a thorough examination of the breach’s impact.

To address the breach, MD Now began sending data breach notification letters to individuals whose information may have been affected starting on August 9, 2024. These letters detailed the types of sensitive information that were involved in the breach and offered recipients 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services to help them protect against potential identity theft. By providing these resources and assistance, MD Now aims to mitigate the consequences of the breach and support impacted individuals in securing their personal information.

Founded in 2004, MD Now is a Florida-based healthcare system that provides various medical services, including treatment for illnesses and injuries, lab testing, and vaccinations. As part of the HCA Florida Healthcare network, MD Now operates a network of over 570 sites across the state, ensuring that patients have access to comprehensive healthcare services. Headquartered in West Palm Beach, MD Now employs a team of over 500 healthcare professionals dedicated to delivering quality medical care to the community.

The data breach at MD Now highlights the ongoing cybersecurity challenges faced by healthcare organizations and underscores the importance of robust data protection measures to safeguard sensitive information. As the investigation continues and affected individuals take steps to secure their data, MD Now remains committed to transparency and accountability in addressing the breach and supporting those impacted by it.
