CyberArk’s latest acquisition of Boston-based startup Zilla marks a strategic move in the cybersecurity space, focusing on enhancing its identity governance and administration (IGA) capabilities within its privilege access management (PAM) platform. The company closed a $165 million deal to integrate Zilla into its portfolio, showcasing a commitment to modernizing its offerings.

Zilla, led by Aveksa founder and CEO Deepak Taneja, has proven to be a small but formidable player in the IGA market. With $5 million in annual recurring revenue, 40 employees, and 125 customers, Zilla’s presence is felt in the industry. CyberArk CEO Matt Cohen praised Zilla’s “modern” IGA platform during an earnings call, emphasizing its capabilities in addressing the complexities of today’s digital environments.

Cohen highlighted Zilla’s innovative approach to IGA, emphasizing the use of AI-driven role management to streamline processes related to identity, compliance, and provisioning. This automation not only simplifies governance tasks but also improves efficiency, allowing customers to deploy Zilla five times faster than traditional IGA solutions, resulting in 60% fewer service tickets.

The integration of Zilla into CyberArk’s platform expands the range of services offered by the company, providing a more comprehensive solution for managing entitlements, provisioning, compliance, access, and controls. This integrated approach enhances security measures in modern environments, aligning with CyberArk’s goal of strengthening its foothold in the cybersecurity market.

CyberArk’s move to acquire Zilla comes at a time when the importance of identity and access governance is increasingly recognized across the industry. With SailPoint’s return to the public markets and its ongoing expansion into CyberArk’s territory, the competition in the IGA space is heating up. SailPoint’s acquisition of PAM provider Osirium and Imprivata’s IGA unit demonstrates a similar strategic focus on integrated identity platforms.

Alex Bovee, CEO of ConductorOne, a competitor in the IGA space, acknowledges the growing significance of identity governance in cybersecurity. He emphasizes that every security company is prioritizing identity and governance within their offerings, as evidenced by CyberArk’s investment in Zilla. This shift towards converged identity platforms reflects the evolving landscape of cybersecurity solutions.

Overall, CyberArk’s acquisition of Zilla signifies a forward-thinking approach to enhancing its cybersecurity capabilities, specifically in the realm of identity governance and administration. By integrating Zilla’s modern IGA platform into its portfolio, CyberArk aims to provide customers with a comprehensive solution that addresses the evolving challenges of today’s digital environments. This strategic move solidifies CyberArk’s position as a key player in the cybersecurity market and sets the stage for future growth and innovation in the industry.
