Lucknow Police arrested two individuals, Javed Iqbal and Mohammad Ahmed alias Bhaiyya, for their involvement in a cyber fraud scheme that targeted job-seekers looking for opportunities abroad. The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by Sultan Salahuddin Rabbani, a resident of Lucknow, who accused the duo of deceiving him and two others with false promises of lucrative data entry jobs in Thailand and Bangkok. Instead, the victims were coerced into participating in cyber fraud activities in Myanmar. According to Additional DCP Manisha Singh, the accused had a history of similar fraudulent activities and were part of a syndicate that preyed on unsuspecting job seekers. The modus operandi involved luring victims to Bangkok under the guise of legitimate job offers, only to transport them to Myanmar where they were forced to engage in illegal cyber activities. The gang, which included members such as Rafaq Rahi, Ashraf, Sameer, Nafees, and Chhotu, operated with impunity until the recent arrests.
The complainant, Sultan Salahuddin Rabbani, detailed his harrowing experience of being duped by Javed Iqbal, who promised him a data entry job in Thailand with a handsome salary. After paying a hefty advance and traveling to Bangkok as per Iqbal’s instructions, Rabbani found himself in Myanmar, coerced into participating in illegal activities. With the intervention of the Indian government, Rabbani was able to return to India and seek justice for the fraud perpetrated against him.
Additionally, other victims have come forward with similar accounts of being swindled by the criminal gang. Mohammad Anas, a resident of Lucknow, alleged that Mohammad Ahmed alias Bhaiyya defrauded him of a significant sum under false pretenses. Similarly, Sadiq Mirza and Tausif recounted their ordeals of being deceived by members of the syndicate.
