The cybersecurity landscape is evolving rapidly, with cyberattacks becoming a pressing concern for companies worldwide. According to the latest European Cyber Report by Link11, the number of DDoS attacks has more than doubled, indicating a shift towards shorter, more targeted, and technically sophisticated attacks. Organizations that fail to adapt their security strategies to these new threats risk substantial financial losses and long-term damage to their reputation.

The statistics presented in the report are alarming. Compared to the previous year, there has been a 137% increase in DDoS attacks on the Link11 network. The scale of these attacks has also reached unprecedented levels, with the largest attack measuring 1.4 terabits per second (Tbps). Furthermore, two-thirds of all attacks are now observed to peak within just 10 to 60 seconds, showcasing their efficiency and effectiveness. The rise of multi-vector attacks, which combine different attack vectors to make defense more challenging, is setting new standards in the realm of cyber threats.

The Allianz Risk Barometer 2025 underscores the importance of proactive cybersecurity measures in the face of digital transformation. While technological advancements present new opportunities, they also expand the attack surface for cybercriminals, who are increasingly leveraging powerful botnets and sophisticated techniques to carry out DDoS attacks. The report highlights a recent case where a four-day multi-vector DDoS attack targeted both network infrastructure and web applications, overwhelming conventional defenses and showcasing the attackers’ strategic approach.

This incident emphasizes the limitations of traditional DDoS defenses and underscores the need for adaptive mitigation strategies. Enterprises are turning to AI-powered systems for real-time threat detection and attack prevention, with a focus on Web Application and API protection to address the critical attack vectors exploited by cybercriminals. A combination of AI-based attack detection, bot management, and adaptive WAF systems is recommended to enhance cybersecurity resilience.

Jens-Philipp Jung, CEO of Link11, emphasizes the importance of a holistic security strategy that incorporates advanced DDoS mitigation, continuous monitoring, and adaptive protection mechanisms. He notes that the increasing frequency of DDoS attacks necessitates a swift and agile response from companies to optimize their defense mechanisms effectively.

In conclusion, the evolving cybersecurity landscape requires organizations to stay vigilant and proactive in implementing robust security measures to safeguard their networks and critical applications. Link11, as a specialized global IT security provider, offers cloud-based solutions to enhance cyber resilience and prevent business disruption. By adopting modern security architectures and leveraging advanced protection solutions, companies can better defend against the growing threat of cyberattacks in today’s digital age.
