Recent insights released by Link11 in their European Cyber Report 2026 have shed light on the escalating threat posed by DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attacks. To put this into perspective, that amount of data is equivalent to the daily traffic of a medium-sized city with 120,000 inhabitants or more than 170,000 hours of HD video streaming.

The statistics underscore a year marked by dramatic growth in the frequency of documented attacks on the Link11 network. The number of such incidents surged by 75% in 2025, building on an already explosive increase of 137% the previous year. This sharp uptick signifies that DDoS attacks are transforming into an omnipresent challenge, particularly for companies and essential infrastructures.

The report indicates a disturbing shift in the attack dynamics. The transition from sporadic incidents to continuous assaults is worth noting; in 2025, DDoS attacks were active 88% of the time, effectively turning a state of emergency into a new norm for many organizations. Moreover, there is a 70% likelihood that companies targeted in an initial assault will experience follow-up attacks. On average, 2.8 subsequent attacks were recorded after the first incident, marking an 80% increase compared to previous figures.

Recognizing that DDoS attacks have morphed into a multi-faceted threat impacting various facets of business, including revenue, reputation, and compliance, is critical. Link11’s report posits that addressing these challenges requires a dual-layered security approach that encompasses both infrastructure and application-level defenses. Strong, always-on DDoS protection systems, alongside Web Application & API Protection (WAAP), are essential for safeguarding digital processes. This combination enables organizations to operate in a stable environment while effectively countering sophisticated attacks.
