Car Hacking Village’s Ghali on Automotive Security for AI-Driven Mobility Ecosystem

Modern vehicles have transformed into interconnected cyber-physical platforms, their attack surfaces expanding dramatically through numerous channels including mobile applications, backend servers, over-the-air update pipelines, and artificial intelligence-driven decision systems. As vehicles continue to evolve, becoming more software-defined and increasingly reliant on over-the-air updates for both maintenance and improvements, they inadvertently adopt traditional IT weaknesses. Ghali pointed out that the integration of artificial intelligence models within vehicles introduces an additional layer of complexity. It is crucial for these models to be safeguarded against external influences, especially as they increasingly make critical decisions that develop safety standards.

In a recent video interview with Information Security Media Group during the RSAC Conference 2026, Ghali elaborated on several key topics surrounding automotive security. Among them was the automotive supply chain’s commitment to investing in cryptographically robust processors, which are becoming essential as a competitive differentiator. This investment is a clear indication of the industry’s recognition of the cybersecurity challenges posed by emerging technologies and interconnected systems.

Furthermore, Ghali discussed the evolution of automotive threat modeling, noting that it is expanding beyond conventional IT frameworks. The current approach now incorporates considerations of safety alongside operational and environmental impacts, highlighting the complexity and nuances involved in safeguarding modern vehicles. This evolution is crucial for an industry that must prioritize security on multiple fronts.
