A recent survey conducted by GetApp found that 73% of US respondents reported that their organizations have already developed a deepfake response plan.

The concern over deepfake attacks stems from the rise of AI-driven impersonation attacks, which can undermine traditional security measures such as biometric authentication. These attacks were once considered highly secure but are now being called into question due to the sophistication of AI technology.

Companies are now focusing on developing deepfake response plans, similar to how they prepare for phishing attacks. Many companies are running simulations of attacks to increase preparedness, with the majority of respondents working in companies where this practice is already implemented. This approach helps employees become more aware of the dangers of deepfake attacks and keeps them vigilant when faced with a real attack.

In the US, 69% of respondents are required to use biometric authentication to enhance cybersecurity, which is above the global average of 53%. However, trust in these systems is diminishing, with 36% expressing significant concerns about AI’s ability to fabricate synthetic biometric data for fraud.

Privacy concerns and the fear of potential identity theft from using biometric protections are also prevalent, with 49% of professionals globally expressing such worries. Despite these concerns, 60% of global IT and security professionals report that their companies have developed measures to defend against AI-generated deepfake attacks.

Cybersecurity strategies are increasingly dependent on biometric authentication, with 77% of surveyed professionals reporting that their companies have increased cybersecurity investments over the last 18 months. David Jani, a senior security analyst at GetApp, emphasizes the importance of company leaders reviewing their system access protections and understanding how to defend against newer, more targeted fraud.

While the threat of biometric fraud and deepfake technology is a serious concern for companies, there are steps that can be taken to stay ahead of cybercriminals. Global respondents who have experienced cyberattacks are focusing on immediate and cost-effective measures to shore up vulnerabilities, such as improving network security, prioritizing software updates, strengthening password policies, and implementing more data encryption solutions.

Overall, the development of deepfake response plans and the integration of biometric authentication into cybersecurity strategies are essential steps in protecting companies from the increasing threat of AI-generated attacks and identity fraud. By staying vigilant and continuously updating security measures, companies can better defend against these evolving threats.
