Software maker CDK Global experienced a cyber attack-led outage that affected numerous auto dealerships across the United States. The company announced on Wednesday that it had rolled out a “small initial test group” of dealers on its Dealer Management System (DMS) following the attack.

CDK Global, a provider of software solutions for car dealerships, temporarily shut down all its systems as it investigated the cyber incident. The company stated that once validation is complete, it will gradually introduce other dealers to the system.

With a network spanning over 15,000 retail locations in North America, CDK plays a critical role in the operations of numerous auto dealerships. In response to the outage, the company is also working to restore its customer relationship management, service solutions, and customer care channels.

The repercussions of the CDK outage have been felt by U.S. auto dealers, many of whom have resorted to manual paperwork due to the system disruption. Reports indicate that around half of Volkswagen dealers and approximately 60% of Audi dealers in the United States have been impacted by the outage.

In an effort to minimize the impact on dealerships and customers, CDK Global is working diligently to address the situation and restore normal operations. The company’s swift response aims to mitigate any further disruptions to the automotive industry.

As the investigation into the cyber attack continues, CDK Global remains focused on providing support to its clients and ensuring the security and stability of its systems. The company’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to safeguarding the interests of auto dealerships and maintaining the integrity of its software solutions.

Industry analysts are closely monitoring the situation to assess the broader implications of the cyber attack on CDK Global and the auto dealership sector. With cybersecurity threats on the rise, companies like CDK are increasingly vulnerable to sophisticated attacks that can disrupt operations and compromise sensitive information.

Despite the challenges posed by the cyber incident, CDK Global’s response highlights the importance of preparedness and resilience in the face of evolving cyber threats. By swiftly addressing the outage and mobilizing resources to restore services, the company sets a precedent for proactive cybersecurity measures in the automotive software industry.

Overall, the CDK Global cyber outage serves as a reminder of the growing cybersecurity risks faced by businesses in the digital age. As technology continues to advance, companies must remain vigilant and implement robust security measures to protect against potential cyber threats and safeguard their operations.
