OnlyFans, the subscription service for content creators, has gained a massive user base of over 170 million people, with 2.1 million registered content creators. However, OnlyFans is often associated with NSFW content, which can expose both content creators and subscribers to various privacy and security risks. These threats range from content piracy to revenge porn and large-scale data leaks and breaches.

To ensure the safety and privacy of those working in the industry and their fans, users need to be cautious when sharing personal information online and be wary of stalkers, scammers, and other ill-intentioned individuals. Personal information, bank details, and verification documents like government-issued identification and selfies need to be provided to set up an account on OnlyFans. The site requests that users register and enter their payment card, be it for a paid or free plan, which is necessary for tax purposes and to ensure that creators are paid legally.

Creators need to provide a legal name and bank account details to get paid. They cannot be fully anonymous on their profile but can try to keep some anonymity by using secondary social media accounts to avoid close contacts. However, a vicious attacker could attempt to hack an account through social engineering or cyberbullying techniques, leading to users giving up their passwords and login data. Hence, it is vital to remain cautious about responding with private information to any unsolicited communication.

Content creators and subscribers can take a few simple steps to secure their account and stay out of harm’s way. Two-factor authentication, an extra layer of security, requires a code sent to a phone or generated by an authentication app to be entered, in addition to the account password, before accessing the account. Reporting any suspicious activity, blocking or restricting a profile, and reporting harmful content are other measures to protect privacy and security.

Sites like PimEyes, which use powerful facial recognition software, make it easy for stalkers to find information on content creators. Therefore, users must only show their face if they know the risks. OnlyFans allows users to block or restrict a profile, with the former stopping a specific profile from viewing theirs, and the latter stopping that profile from sending private messages or replying to posts.

OnlyFans is a platform that raises the stakes significantly, and users need to shield themselves from privacy and security risks. By being vigilant and taking the necessary precautions, content creators and subscribers can embrace the social media platform without overly exposing themselves to its potentially toxic brew of NSFW content and privacy threats.
