On May 1, 2026, Anthropic, the company behind the Claude artificial intelligence, announced a significant expansion in the availability of its sophisticated model tailored for identifying and rectifying software vulnerabilities. This announcement is particularly noteworthy as it marks Claude’s position as the company’s second-most powerful model crafted specifically for this purpose.

The newly launched Claude Security operates based on the Opus 4.7 model. This advanced AI system is designed to offer comprehensive insights into vulnerabilities, including detailed assessments of their authenticity, severity, and repercussions. Furthermore, it provides users with information on how these flaws can be replicated in various environments. Anthropic emphasized these features in a recent blog post, highlighting the model’s ability to generate actionable instructions for targeted patches. Users can access these instructions through Claude Code on the web, enhancing their ability to address issues in context.

Claude Security is now accessible as a public beta for enterprise clients. However, in an effort to safeguard the technology from potential misuse, Anthropic has implemented protective measures for individuals who are yet to confirm their status as certified cybersecurity professionals.

In parallel to this development, the company’s earlier model, Mythos Preview, which was launched on April 7, remains tightly restricted. This model has been classified as too hazardous for public deployment and is currently only available to around 50 select companies enrolled in Anthropic’s Project Glasswing. Recent reports reveal that the White House has expressed opposition to Anthropic’s proposal to further expand access to Mythos, citing national security concerns associated with its capabilities.

Moreover, Anthropic has collaborated with several technology partners who are integrating the Opus 4.7 model into their product offerings. Notable partners include cybersecurity leaders such as CrowdStrike, Microsoft Security, Palo Alto Networks, SentinelOne, TrendAI, and Wiz. These collaborations aim to bolster customer defenses against increasingly sophisticated automated threats, with Palo Alto Networks noting that their integration of this advanced AI model empowers clients to stay ahead of malicious actors.

Claude Security made its first appearance in February 2026 as a research preview under the name Claude Code Security. Since then, the insights gained from approximately two months of user experience have been instrumental in shaping the current iteration. Anthropic has implemented several enhancements, including a multi-stage validation process to reduce false positive rates and the ability for users to schedule scans. This version also allows for directory-specific scanning, the option to dismiss specific findings, exporting results, and sending scan findings to project management tools for easier workflow integration.

The introduction of Claude into the realm of vulnerability scanning has generated considerable attention within the cybersecurity market. However, since the initial launch, a wave of skepticism has emerged regarding the model’s efficacy. Cybersecurity entrepreneur Jeremiah Grossman, in a LinkedIn post, pointed out that while many Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) exist, most never become weapons used in active cyberattacks. He cautioned that simply increasing capabilities does not necessarily translate into immediate effectiveness against real-world threats. “The common mistake is to treat ‘might work,’ or ‘works in the lab,’ as ‘will be used,'” he noted, stressing that such misinterpretations can contribute to widespread confusion within the cybersecurity sector.

In contrast to Grossman’s views, cybersecurity expert Kevin Beaumont expressed concerns over the general panic surrounding Generative AI technologies, suggesting that such reactions arise from a lack of understanding of the technology and its practical implications. He urges the industry to approach these advancements with a critical and informed perspective.
