The BianLian ransomware group has reportedly targeted three prominent US companies in a series of cyberattacks, compromising significant amounts of sensitive data. Island Transportation Corp., Legend Properties Inc., and Transit Mutual Insurance Corporation of Wisconsin are the victims of these cyberattacks, with details of the breaches posted on a dark web forum by the ransomware group.

Island Transportation Corp., a leading bulk carrier specializing in serving the petroleum industry, suffered the unauthorized access of 300 GB of organizational data in the attack. This data includes crucial business information, accounting records, project files, data from network users’ folders, file server data, and personal data. The full extent of the attack is still being determined.

Legend Properties Inc., a well-established commercial real estate and brokerage firm, experienced the unauthorized access of 400 GB of sensitive data during the ransomware attack. Similarly, Transit Mutual Insurance Corporation of Wisconsin, a key provider of insurance services, had 400 GB of organizational data compromised in the cyberattack.

The escalation of these attacks underscores the growing threat posed by ransomware attacks to critical sectors in the United States. The implications of these breaches could be severe if the claims of unauthorized access and potential data exposure are verified. The stolen data could be used for malicious purposes such as identity theft, financial fraud, and further cyberattacks, leading to reputational damage and erosion of trust among clients and partners.

To verify the claims made by the BianLian ransomware group, The Cyber Express Team attempted to access the official websites of the affected companies. While Island Transportation Corp.’s website was functioning, the websites of Legend Properties Inc. and Transit Mutual Insurance Corporation of Wisconsin were inaccessible, showing a blocking message. Efforts to contact the companies for comments are ongoing, with updates expected in future reports.

In light of these attacks, it is imperative for businesses to prioritize cybersecurity strategies to protect their digital infrastructure from evolving cyber threats. The Cyber Express Team will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
