The inaugural Billington State and Local CyberSecurity Summit is set to take place on March 19-20, 2024 at the National Press Club in Washington, DC and virtually. The conference aims to bring together senior cyber leaders to address cybersecurity issues and solutions for government entities at the state and local level.

“With the increased attacks on our infrastructure, this new conference explores ways to protect our localities as well as the cyber issues they grapple with on a daily basis,” said Thomas K. Billington, CEO and Founder of Billington CyberSecurity. The event will focus on the importance of protecting state and local governments from cyber criminals, who pose a threat to the nation’s security.

State and local governments and the critical infrastructure they support have faced significant cyber-attacks in recent years. The state of Illinois, the city of Dallas, and the Los Angeles Unified School District are just a few examples of entities that have experienced devastating cyber-attacks impacting their operations. However, many of these governments are ill-equipped to defend themselves due to scarce resources.

More than 30 cyber leaders from government, tech, and academia will be speaking at the two-day summit. Among the speakers are Vitaliy Panych, CISO of the State of California, Nancy Rainosek, State Chief Information Security Officer of the Texas Department of Information Resources, and Chris DeRusha, Federal CISO of OMB. The summit will cover ways to enhance cybersecurity at the state, county, city, and municipal levels across the U.S., including critical infrastructure sectors.

The summit will take place at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, with a virtual option to accommodate attendees from different states. Credentialed working media are invited to cover the event either in person or online. All sessions are open to the press except for the workshops that will precede the event on March 19 and the roundtables at lunch on March 20. Those interested in attending, including media representatives, should register on the event’s website. Ticket prices vary depending on the type of business.

In addition, attendees can receive continuing education credits from CompTIA and (ISC)2. The event is presented by a variety of sponsors, including CISCO, Amazon Web Services, NightDragon, Carahsoft Technology Corp., Anomali, CompTIA, Presidio, and Sailpoint.

The summit’s mission to address cybersecurity challenges facing state and local governments is crucial in light of the increasing frequency of cyber-attacks. By bringing together expert speakers from various sectors, the event aims to provide valuable insights and solutions to help protect government entities and critical infrastructure from cyber threats.
