Japanese organizations are being urged to step up their cybersecurity measures by experts like Yugal Joshi, Partner at Everest Group. According to Joshi, these organizations should already be implementing basic security practices such as regular vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and hacker days. However, he emphasized the importance of also incorporating advanced technologies into their defense strategies.

In order to enhance their cyber defense capabilities, Japanese organizations need to invest in well-staffed Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) functions and utilize artificial intelligence (AI) and automation in their operations. Joshi also recommended that they learn from cyber attacks targeting other regions, such as those carried out by Chinese hackers, to better prepare themselves against potential threats.

One key aspect that organizations should focus on is employee readiness. Phishing and social engineering tactics are often used by cyber attackers to gain access to sensitive information, and employees are often the targets of these tactics. Joshi stressed the importance of coaching, educating, and constantly training employees to recognize and respond to potential threats effectively.

It is clear that cybersecurity is a top priority for Japanese organizations, especially in light of the increasing sophistication of cyber attacks. By implementing a combination of basic security practices, advanced technologies, and employee training, these organizations can enhance their cyber defense capabilities and better protect themselves against potential threats in the digital world.
