The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, took a proactive stance on improving the state’s law and order situation during a recent review session on Sunday. In a bold move to tackle these challenges head-on, the Chief Minister announced plans to create 2,000 new traffic police positions within the year.
Currently, the state employs 2,198 traffic police personnel, and the addition of new recruits aims to bolster the enforcement of traffic regulations and ensure public safety on the roads. The home department and police force have been tasked with ensuring transparent and fair recruitment procedures for the new positions to maintain the highest standards of professionalism within the law enforcement agencies.
In the realm of cyber security, CM Majhi unveiled plans for the establishment of an advanced cyber forensic laboratory to combat the growing threat of digital crimes. The alarming statistics reveal that 2,633 cyber crime cases were registered statewide in 2024, reflecting the urgent need for enhanced measures to safeguard digital information and combat cyber threats effectively. To bolster these efforts, the Chief Minister directed the establishment of 20 new cyber police stations equipped with modern technology and skilled personnel to handle digital offences.
Furthermore, in a bid to tackle Left-wing extremism (LWE) in the state, the CM reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating Maoists by 2026, aligning with the objectives set by the Central government. This strong stance against extremism underscores the state’s unwavering dedication to maintaining peace and security for its citizens.
In the fight against ganja cultivation and trafficking, CM Majhi urged the police authorities to ramp up operations against offenders.
