PeerBerry, a prominent peer-to-peer lending platform, is currently facing allegations of a data breach. The hacker collective known as SeigedSec has claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting that they possess 20GB of the firm’s data. However, PeerBerry has vehemently denied these allegations, stating that there has been no cyber attack.

Kotryna Dovgialaitė, Head of Client Support at PeerBerry, has firmly stated that cybercriminals are manipulating with an old incident and that there has been no new data breach on the platform. This challenges the claims made by the SeigedSec group and casts doubt on the authenticity of the alleged data breach.

In a statement released by PeerBerry, they reiterate their position and clarify that the incident in question actually occurred in April 2020. They claim that this incident has already been disclosed to the investor community and relevant data protection authorities. PeerBerry urges caution in assessing publicly distributed information and advises clients to reach out to their Client Support with any questions or doubts. They also emphasize the importance of regular password changes and the use of two-factor authentication for enhanced data protection.

The SeigedSec hacker group, in a dark web post, announced the data breach with a playful phrase suggesting that the attack was carried out for amusement rather than malicious intent. They taunt PeerBerry while advising them to improve their security measures. The threat actors even provide a Gofile link offering a glimpse into the leaked data.

However, PeerBerry’s persistent denial raises questions about the authenticity of the alleged attack. The conflicting narratives between PeerBerry and the SeigedSec hacker group highlight the challenges of verifying cyber attacks.

The SeigedSec hacker group is a newcomer among hacker groups in 2023 and has been linked to several cyber attacks. However, evidence suggests that their targets have often refused to acknowledge breaches, possibly due to their smaller scale or non-English speaking background.

As the alleged data breach is now called into question, it remains to be seen how this episode will unfold. The conflicting claims and denials add to the complexity of determining the truth behind cyber attacks.
