Warangal Police Commissionerate Marks Decrease in Overall Crime Rate
A significant achievement was announced by the Warangal Police Commissionerate as they revealed a 3.21% decline in the overall crime rate for the year 2024. The Commissioner of Police (CP) Ambar Kishor Jha credited this reduction to the proactive measures and effective use of technology by the police force.
During a press conference held on Saturday, the CP presented the annual crime report, highlighting that the Commissionerate recorded 14,406 cases in 2024, compared to 14,731 cases in the previous year. Specific crime categories also saw notable changes, with murders declining by 16.67% while property crimes witnessed a slight increase of 2.23%.
The CP elaborated on the accomplishments of the police force, stating that stolen property worth ₹11.81 crore was recovered and 18 inter-State burglars were apprehended. Moreover, cases related to crimes against women decreased by 11%, frauds by 16%, and kidnappings by 7.45%. The effective handling of cybercrime was also emphasized, with 772 cases reported and ₹1.29 crore recovered from cybercriminals. Notably, a couple from Tamil Nadu involved in numerous cyber fraud cases across India was apprehended for looting ₹15 crore.
Road safety initiatives also yielded positive results, with road accident cases decreasing from 1,558 in 2023 to 1,434 in 2024. Fatalities dropped by 12.03%, with 437 deaths reported this year compared to 499 last year. The police’s efforts in anti-narcotics operations resulted in the confiscation of ganja worth ₹2.63 crore in 147 cases and the arrest of 321 individuals.
Additionally, the courts disposed of 5,862 cases during the year, leading to 2,462 convictions – a 42% increase from the previous year. The CP attributed this improved conviction rate to skilled investigations and strong evidence collection practices within the force.
The Commissioner also highlighted the achievements of the three SHE Teams operating in Warangal, which registered 18 FIRs, booked 126 petty cases, and arrested 150 individuals. These teams conducted 173 awareness programs and were nationally recognized, securing second place and receiving an appreciation letter.
In a significant development, four CPI Maoist extremists, including a special zonal committee member with a reward of ₹20 lakh, surrendered during the year. The police also rescued victims from a human trafficking racket operated by a fraudulent travel agency.
Utilizing the CEIR portal, the police blocked 5,207 stolen mobile phones, traced 2,964, and successfully returned 2,462 to their rightful owners. Commissioner Ambar Kishor Jha emphasized the importance of pro-active policing and technological advancements in crime prevention, ensuring a safer environment for citizens.
The press conference was attended by East Zone DCP Ravinder, ASP Manan Bhat, Additional DCP Ravi, ACPs Jitender Reddy and David Raju, and other officials. The Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the police force to continually improve their performance in maintaining law and order.
