Cyber Crime Wing of T.N. police commences Hackathon

The Cyber Crime Wing of Tamil Nadu Police kicked off a two-day hackathon at the Police Headquarters, aimed at fostering the use of logical and coding skills to tackle policing challenges. The event presented five problem statements for participants to address, including developing an Intelligent Surveillance System for Dark Web, Deanonymizing Tor Mail for investigation purposes, VoIP Call Interception and Analysis, and Social Media Targeted Advertisement Identification and Analysis for Cyber Scams.

With a total of 315 abstract submissions from different colleges, the jury members from IIT-Madras and ELCOT screened 54 teams in the first round based on criteria such as the suitability of the proposed solution, usability, technical and economic feasibility, scalability, and deployment opportunities. These 54 teams are now competing in the second round, where they will be judged on their alignment with police requirements, technical innovation, and design durability. Out of these, 15 teams will be selected to receive trophies, cash prizes, and certificates, while the remaining 12 will be given consolation cash prizes.

The hackathon is not only a platform for students and firms to showcase their problem-solving abilities but also a way for law enforcement to harness the potential of technology in addressing cyber threats and crimes. This initiative by the Tamil Nadu Police reflects a proactive approach to engaging with the tech community and fostering collaboration in the fight against cybercrime.

Through events like these, the police force is not only able to tap into the creative thinking and technical expertise of students and professionals but also to encourage innovation in policing methods.
