A report revealed that a deepfake attack occurred every five minutes in 2024, underscoring the frequency and urgency of the issue. The use of AI-assisted deepfakes, capable of creating hyper-realistic forgeries and synthetic identities, poses a significant challenge for global organizations. While traditional fraud tactics like phishing may be easier to detect, the rapid advancement of AI-generated deepfakes presents a new level of sophistication that is harder to combat.

As AI-generated deepfake attacks and identity fraud become more prevalent, companies are reassessing their cybersecurity measures and developing response plans to mitigate the risks. A significant percentage of organizations have already developed deepfake response plans, indicating a proactive approach to tackling the issue. Moreover, IT and security professionals worldwide are implementing measures to defend against AI-generated deepfake attacks, demonstrating a growing awareness of the importance of cybersecurity in the face of evolving threats.

Despite the growing awareness of deepfake technology, consumers continue to overestimate their ability to spot deepfakes. The majority of consumers believe they could detect a deepfake, with men showing higher confidence levels compared to women. However, the reality is that identifying sophisticated deepfakes created using AI tools is a challenging task, highlighting the need for greater education and awareness among the general public.

In light of these concerning trends, it is clear that deepfake technology poses a significant threat to individuals and organizations worldwide.
