Delinea, a leading provider of Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions, has announced an update to its award-winning vault solution, Secret Server. The update introduces Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enforcement on credentials, adding an extra layer of security to protect highly sensitive credentials and help organizations meet compliance requirements.
In today’s digital landscape, stolen credentials and human error are among the most common ways cybercriminals access systems and data. The 2023 Data Breach Investigations Report by Verizon reveals that 86% of breaches involve stolen credentials, while 74% of all breaches involve the human element. Given these statistics, IT and security teams need additional security controls to verify identities for highly privileged accounts and protect their organizations.
According to a recent survey report by Delinea, 47% of respondents expressed the need to purchase an MFA enforcement solution to meet cyber insurance requirements. Recognizing this demand, Delinea’s update to Secret Server introduces granular MFA enforcement as an additional line of defense.
The new functionality is designed for ease of use and enables IT and security teams to add various security requirements on individual privileged credentials beyond MFA at login. It offers the flexibility to enforce MFA on a single credential, multiple credentials through bulk operations, or all credentials in a folder via a policy. By providing an additional layer of security further down the attack chain, this update enhances access controls on highly privileged accounts, even if the user’s credentials and preferred MFA method used at login become compromised.
Importantly, this Secret Server release ensures that organizations can continue using their existing MFA solutions. It supports various types of MFA, including the Delinea Mobile App, Yubikey, and other devices using FIDO2 protocols. This enhancement is exclusively available for Secret Server Cloud, delivered through the Delinea Platform. It enables granular controls to help organizations mitigate risk, meet cyber insurance and compliance requirements, and strike a balance between productivity and security.
Phil Calvin, Chief Product Officer at Delinea, expressed excitement about the additional controls offered by MFA enforcement at multiple levels of vault access for Secret Server Cloud customers using the Delinea Platform. He emphasized that this new layer of defense adds an extra protection against bad actors while supporting Privileged Access Management (PAM) security best practices.
Current Secret Server Cloud customers can leverage this update by upgrading and using the Delinea Platform as their management console.
