Notorious hacking group DEVILS SEC has affiliated with KILLNET, a formidable hacking organization. The newly formed alliance has declared its solidarity with Russia in its cyber attacks on Ukraine, and aims to target highly sensitive Ukrainian facilities in what may be a troubling escalation of the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

The collaboration between DEVILS SEC and KILLNET poses a challenge for cybersecurity professionals and the Ukrainian government, amplifying the gravity of the situation. The partnership suggests a joint effort to increase the combined effort to target Ukraine, pooling their expertise, resources, and networks.

DEVILS SEC has made a name for itself, hacking governments across nations and targeting organizations across various sectors. Meanwhile, KILLNET has also left its mark on the hacking world with its sophisticated attack techniques and aggressives tactics.

The alliance poses a risk not just for Russia and Ukraine, but also for other nation-states and critical infrastructure worldwide. To understand the cyberwar between Russian and Ukrainian hackers, it is crucial to understand the timeline of cyber attacks launched by both countries. Russia began its war on Ukraine in February 2022, accompanied by persistent cyber-attacks since the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014. These attacks intensified before the invasion, causing significant harm to Ukraine’s public, energy, media, financial, business, and non-profit sectors.

The attacks included a cyber assault on Kyiv Post and the KA-SAT satellite network, disruption of government websites, and blocking access to financial services. The EU condemned these actions, emphasizing their risk to Europe’s security.

March 2022 witnessed malware attacks on various sectors, hindering the distribution of essential supplies. Phishing, false messages, and deep-fake videos targeted citizens and telecommunication providers. Additionally, in April 2022, data breaches occurred in government, media, and banking sectors and attempts were made to disrupt power stations. The most recent attack targeted the Ukrainian postal service during the launch of war-related stamps.

While cyber attacks have increasingly become global, the collaboration between DEVILS SEC and KILLNET adds another layer of criticality to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia and raises concerns over cyber security.
