Virudhunagar: In a shocking turn of events, two men have been arrested by the District cybercrime police for defrauding a man of a whopping 48.29 lakh by luring him with the promise of earning more money by simply reviewing hotels. The victim, Anguraj from Srivilliputhur, fell prey to the scam after receiving enticing offers via social media. He was instructed to transfer the hefty sum of money to various bank accounts in exchange for the opportunity to make easy money through hotel reviews. However, once Anguraj realized that he had been deceived, he wasted no time in filing a complaint with the police in February.

Prompt action was taken by the authorities following the complaint, with Virudhunagar district superintendent of police K Feroze Khan Abdullah issuing orders to form a special team to apprehend the culprits. The diligent efforts of the team led to the arrest of Z Ejazkhan in Chennai on March 16, and subsequently, R Riyaz Ahamed from Thanjavur district in Tuticorin on Wednesday. During the arrests, police were able to seize a significant amount of evidence, including 30 mobile phones, 55 SIM cards, 44 bank cheques, 36 passbooks, seven passports, and even a luxurious BMW car. Additionally, the bank accounts of the accused, containing deposits amounting to 28 lakh, were promptly frozen to prevent further financial misdeeds.

Both suspects were produced in court and subsequently remanded in judicial custody as the legal proceedings against them move forward. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the prevalence of cybercrimes and the importance of remaining vigilant while engaging in online activities that involve financial transactions.

In recent times, there have been several high-profile cases of crime and fraud that have come to light, further emphasizing the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures and public awareness. One such incident involved the Patiala police cracking down on a group of six individuals involved in a robbery case where Rs 22 lakh was stolen from a money-transfer business owned by Jasdeep Singh. Through a meticulous technical investigation, law enforcement was able to recover a substantial portion of the stolen funds, totaling around Rs 20 lakh. The main perpetrator, Tarun Chahan, along with his accomplice Chamkaur Singh, were identified as having a history of criminal activities, underscoring the importance of swift and decisive action by the authorities to curb such illicit activities.

Similarly, the Noida Police made headlines after apprehending two individuals, Ishwar and Vinay, in connection with the Elvish Yadav snake venom case, which violated the Wildlife Protection Act. The case unfolded with the discovery of five cobras at a banquet hall in Sector 51, leading to Yadav’s arrest in Surajpur, Greater Noida. The incident shed light on the need for stricter enforcement of wildlife protection laws and the swift apprehension of individuals involved in illegal activities endangering wildlife.

In another unfortunate case, a woman named Santhana Selvi found herself in financial turmoil after her bank account was frozen due to a mysterious 150 deposit as part of a cyber fraud scam. The incident serves as a cautionary tale against engaging in risky financial practices and highlights the importance of adhering to financial guidelines to safeguard oneself against potential scams and fraud.

As instances of cybercrimes and financial fraud continue to plague society, it is imperative for individuals to exercise caution and remain vigilant while conducting online transactions. Law enforcement agencies must also remain proactive in identifying and apprehending individuals involved in fraudulent activities to ensure the safety and security of the public’s finances.
