The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), in collaboration with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center (CICC) and finance app GCash, recently organized a learning session for cyber investigators. The event took place at the CICC hub in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, and was attended by key officials from various governmental bodies, including the National Privacy Commission (NPC), National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), and Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), as well as representatives from GCash.

During the session, Undersecretary Alexander Ramos, executive director of CICC, emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing cyber security for millions of Filipinos. He highlighted the importance of forming partnerships like this one to strengthen the government’s efforts in combating cybercrime.

GCash, a leading finance app, shared its best practices and innovative cybersecurity initiatives with the participants. The company discussed its GSafeTayo campaign and the recent launch of enhanced security measures on its platform. Additionally, GCash shared its data privacy protocols and measures aimed at building trust and loyalty among customers. The company also provided insights into common fraud cases and ongoing efforts to improve security and fraud prevention mechanisms.

One of GCash’s key security features is DoubleSafe, which utilizes Face ID authentication to protect users against unauthorized transactions. The company is committed to ensuring compliance, safety, and security for its users through continuous innovation and stringent risk mitigation strategies.

Through collaborations with partners like the CICC and law enforcement agencies, GCash aims to strengthen its cyber capabilities and promote financial inclusion. The company is actively involved in combating cybercrime by advocating for digital literacy initiatives to educate users about common scams and fraudulent activities, such as phishing scams, smishing, and identity theft. GCash’s collaboration with law enforcement has resulted in the blocking of over 4.1 million fraudulent accounts, underscoring its proactive stance against malicious activities.

Macky Limgenco II, associate vice president for Commercial Sales at GCash, emphasized the importance of educating users about the safe use of cyberspace, particularly in financial services. While technology plays a crucial role in fostering financial inclusivity, GCash recognizes the significance of educating users on cybersecurity practices to ensure a safer online experience.

Overall, the partnership between the DICT, CICC, and GCash underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing cyber security measures and protecting Filipinos from cyber threats. By working together and sharing best practices, these organizations are paving the way for a more secure digital environment for all users.
