Hacker alleges leaking over 650k Aussie Vapes store customer details

A recent data leak claim has surfaced on a clear web hacking forum, with an alleged 668,200 customers of online retailer Aussie Vapes being the target. The hacker, using the pseudonym zxcv16, has reportedly obtained an Excel spreadsheet containing a wealth of personal information including names, email and physical addresses, phone numbers, date of birth, and gender. This sensitive data has the potential to be used for malicious purposes and poses a significant threat to the affected individuals.

The post on the hacking forum also features a small sample dataset of 10 customers in order to demonstrate the authenticity of the leak. To add to the complexity of the situation, it was identified that all the emails listed in the leak were part of a previous data breach involving Dymocks in the year prior. This raises concerns about the origins and legitimacy of the leaked data, leading to speculation that it may be a repackaging of the Dymocks breach rather than a completely new incident.

The Dymocks breach, which occurred in September 2023, impacted 1.2 million customers and resulted in the exposure of personal information such as emails, names, addresses, and phone numbers – all of which align with the data included in the alleged Aussie Vapes leak. The similarities in the type of data compromised raise questions about the true source of the leaked information and the extent of its credibility.

It is essential to note that while customers are required to provide personal information during the registration process on the Aussie Vapes platform, the store does not request the gender of its customers. This detail adds another layer of uncertainty and suspicion surrounding the authenticity of the leaked data and its connection to Aussie Vapes.

As a response to the concerning allegations, Cyber Daily has reached out to Aussie Vapes for a statement and clarification regarding the purported data leak. In light of the potential impact on the affected customers, it is imperative for the company to address the situation promptly and take necessary measures to ensure the security and protection of its customers’ data.

The emergence of such a significant data leak claim serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat of cyber attacks and the critical importance of robust cybersecurity measures. It also highlights the vulnerabilities that exist within online platforms and the potential risks associated with sharing personal information in the digital sphere.

As the situation continues to unfold, it is crucial for affected individuals to remain vigilant and stay updated on any developments or communications from Aussie Vapes regarding the alleged data leak. Furthermore, it is advisable for customers to monitor their accounts for any unusual activity and take proactive steps to safeguard their personal information from potential exploitation.
