Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre Bans Over 1,000 Skype IDs

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), in partnership with Microsoft, has taken a significant step in combating cybercrime by blocking over 1,000 Skype IDs used for blackmail, extortion, and other fraudulent activities. These cyber criminals have been pretending to be officials from various law enforcement agencies such as the police, CBI, Narcotics Department, RBI, and Enforcement Directorate to deceive their victims.

The I4C, along with Microsoft, is not only focusing on blocking these Skype IDs but also working towards blocking SIM cards, mobile devices, and Mule accounts that are being used by these fraudsters. This coordinated effort aims to disrupt the operations of these cyber criminals and prevent further incidents of online fraud.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has acknowledged the increasing number of complaints being reported on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) related to such fraudulent activities. This highlights the need for stronger cybersecurity measures and collaborative initiatives between government agencies and private companies to tackle cyber threats effectively.
