The Most Inspiring Women in Cyber Awards, organized by Eskenzi PR in partnership with the IT Security Guru, seek to recognize and celebrate the outstanding women in the cybersecurity industry. The winners are selected by a panel of esteemed judges, and one of the 2024 Ones to Watch awardees is highlighted in this feature in a question-and-answer format.

The recipient of this prestigious award is a Co-Founder and Director of CyberWomen Groups C.I.C. Her role involves working with students nationwide, empowering them, and creating opportunities for their career development. She aims to showcase the work and achievements of students in the UK and bridge the gap between university and industry. Additionally, she supports branch executive teams in meeting their goals and organizing events throughout the academic year to enhance the cybersecurity experience for future professionals.

In her capacity as a graduate cybersecurity engineer at Leonardo, she explores various aspects of cybersecurity by rotating through projects that cover network security, security policies, and more. Working in a dynamic environment, she collaborates with multiple teams and gains a broad understanding of the field. Moreover, she was also part of the UK Cyber 9/12 Strategy Competition 2024 organizing team, offering students a hands-on experience in cyber policy.

Her journey into cybersecurity began during her computer science studies, where she developed an interest in cybersecurity through Capture the Flag competitions and social engineering. Upon noting the gender gap in her undergraduate cybersecurity program, she co-founded CyberWomen@Warwick to empower women in the field. This initiative eventually led to her current role, where she continues to make meaningful contributions to cybersecurity while honing her skills.

When asked about advice for new starters in cybersecurity, she emphasizes overcoming imposter syndrome, seeking guidance and support from peers, and embracing continuous learning. She dispels misconceptions about cybersecurity, highlighting the diverse skill sets and roles within the industry, the importance of soft skills for communication, and the collaborative nature of the work.

Reflecting on her journey, she wishes she had known about the multitude of resources available for beginners in cybersecurity and the value of community early on. She emphasizes the importance of joining communities, such as CTF teams, for skill development and problem-solving strategies.

In conclusion, the awardee’s journey in cybersecurity exemplifies dedication, empowerment, and continuous learning. Her story serves as an inspiration to aspiring women in the industry, showcasing the opportunities and growth potential within cybersecurity for all individuals, regardless of background or experience level.
