A collaboration between F5 Networks and Intel is set to revolutionize the world of edge applications, particularly in the realms of video analytics and Internet of Things (IoT), where speed and efficiency are paramount. In a recent blog post, Kunal Anand, the chief technology officer at F5, outlined the benefits of the integrated F5/Intel offering, highlighting its potential for enhancing performance and security in a variety of scenarios.

Anand explained that F5 NGINX Plus serves as a reverse proxy, providing essential traffic management and protection for AI model servers. By utilizing high-availability configurations and active health checks, NGINX Plus ensures that requests from applications, workflows, and users are efficiently directed to operational OpenVINO model servers. Additionally, the integration allows for the use of HTTPS and mTLS certificates to encrypt communications without sacrificing speed.

Developers working with OpenVINO can optimize and compress models to improve response times before deploying them with the embedded OpenVINO runtime. Anand emphasized that the flexibility of the solution enables the deployment of AI-infused applications across various hardware architectures, including data centers, cloud environments, and edge devices, using lightweight containers.

One of the key security features of the collaboration is the incorporation of Intel IPUs to create a security barrier between NGINX Plus and OpenVINO servers. This additional layer of protection helps guard against potential vulnerabilities and secures sensitive data within AI models. Intel IPUs are specifically designed to work seamlessly with the Dell PowerEdge R760 Server, which is powered by Intel Xeon processors, enhancing the overall performance of both OpenVINO model servers and F5 NGINX Plus.

The partnership between F5 Networks and Intel represents a significant step forward in optimizing edge applications for enhanced efficiency, security, and performance. By leveraging the combined strengths of NGINX Plus, OpenVINO, and Intel IPUs, organizations can streamline their AI deployment processes and ensure the safe handling of sensitive data. The availability of this integrated offering signals a new era of innovation in the field of edge computing, promising to unlock new possibilities for a wide range of industries and applications.
