Palo Alto Networks Founder and CTO Nir Zuk has shared his views on the credibility of large cloud providers in offering security tools that extend beyond their own platforms. According to Zuk, customers have a natural distrust towards vendors like Google when it comes to providing security for competing platforms such as AWS and Azure. He believes that the recent acquisition of Wiz by Google will likely only be appealing to organizations heavily invested in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), which is not common at the enterprise level.
Zuk mentioned that other cloud providers have struggled to sell multi-cloud security solutions because customers are hesitant to trust them to effectively support platforms other than their own. He expressed skepticism that Google will be successful in this regard. The industry veteran emphasized that customers do not typically purchase multi-cloud security solutions from cloud providers due to concerns about support and effectiveness across different platforms.
During an audio interview with Information Security Media Group at Palo Alto Networks’ Ignite on Tour event in New York, Zuk delved into several key topics. He highlighted the drivers behind the increasing convergence between security operations and the cloud, pointing out the advantages of leveraging machine learning over LLMs for security purposes. Additionally, Zuk explained why Palo Alto Networks has opted to avoid entering the identity and email security spaces.
Before co-founding Palo Alto Networks in 2005, Zuk held the position of CTO at NetScreen Technologies, which was acquired by Juniper Networks. He also played a crucial role as the co-founder and CTO of OneSecure, a company specializing in intrusion prevention and detection appliances. Earlier in his career, Zuk served as a principal engineer at Check Point Software Technologies.
Zuk’s insights shed light on the challenges and opportunities in the evolving landscape of cloud security, particularly in the context of multi-cloud environments. As organizations continue to navigate complex security requirements across different cloud platforms, the role of trusted and specialized security providers like Palo Alto Networks becomes increasingly critical in ensuring robust protection for evolving digital infrastructures.
