Growing demand for AI/ML tools driven by Antivirus and Anti-Malware

The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools in enterprises is on the rise, particularly in the field of cybersecurity. According to Dark Reading’s latest research on enterprise cybersecurity, these technologies are playing a crucial role in enhancing the security posture of organizations.

The survey conducted by Dark Reading on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Cybersecurity revealed that AI and ML are being utilized across various cybersecurity technologies such as firewalls, endpoint detection and response platforms, security information and event management systems, and network traffic analyzers. Among all security technologies, antivirus/anti-malware saw the highest adoption rate, with 51% of respondents incorporating AI and ML in this area. This trend is not surprising considering that as early as 2017, organizations were already starting to implement AI and ML in their antivirus measures.

Cybersecurity professionals are increasingly turning to AI and ML tools to combat the evolving tactics of malicious actors. The ongoing arms race between Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and cyber adversaries is a driving force behind the adoption of AI and ML capabilities in critical areas such as phishing detection (49%), threat detection and response (45%), and endpoint security (40%). Additionally, a significant portion of real-world security teams are leveraging AI and ML for tasks like malware analysis (38%), intrusion detection and prevention (35%), threat intelligence (35%), identity and access management (34%), network security/network traffic analysis (33%), vulnerability management (32%), and security information and event management (31%).

While a quarter of respondents mentioned using AI/ML in user behavior analytics/predictive analytics (27%), fraud detection (27%), automated security operations (26%), and automated incident response (25%), the slightly lower adoption rate in these areas suggests that they are still developing features within organizations.

To further explore the impact of AI and ML on cybersecurity, Dark Reading offers a detailed report titled “The State of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Cybersecurity.” This report provides valuable insights into how these technologies are shaping the future of cybersecurity and helping organizations stay ahead of cyber threats.

Overall, the increasing adoption of AI and ML tools in cybersecurity underscores the importance of leveraging advanced technologies to enhance security measures and protect sensitive data from cyber threats. As organizations continue to invest in AI and ML capabilities, they are better positioned to defend against cyber attacks and safeguard their digital assets in an increasingly complex threat landscape.
