A recent report from cybersecurity firm Hudson Rock has revealed a disturbing series of data breaches within hacker forums, leading to the exposure of approximately 100,000 hackers and their identities. The breaches have impacted over 120,000 compromised computers, with more than 100 prominent cybercrime forums falling victim to the hacker forum data leak.
According to the report, the compromised information includes a range of data such as emails, usernames, autofill details (names, addresses, and phone numbers), as well as system particulars like computer names and IP addresses. Among the websites affected by the hacker forum data breach, the forum “Nulled.to” stands out with over 57,000 compromised users, making it one of the most prominent incidents.
Other forums like “Cracked.io” and “Hackforums.net” have also fallen victim to this breach. The report analyzed user passwords across various forums and found that “Breached.to” had the most robust passwords, while the Russian site “Rf-cheats.ru” had the weakest passwords. It is interesting to note that the passwords implicated in this breach display greater strength than those used on government websites and outperform industries like the military in terms of password security.
The primary sources of this hacker forum data breach are attributed to Redline, followed by Raccoon and Azorult. In terms of geographical distribution, the five countries with the highest number of hackers implicated in this breach include Tunisia, Malaysia, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Israel.
This incident is not the first of its kind. In July 2023, cybersecurity company Bitdefender reported another hacker forum data breach involving BreachForums. The verification of this breach by the well-known platform “Have I Been Pwned” (HIBP) highlights the irony of those who once exploited others’ data now facing a similar fate.
Another notorious hacking forum, RaidForums, also saw its member database leak, exposing user details from March 2015 to September 2020. In November 2022, BreachForums experienced a similar incident, leading to the apprehension of the site’s operator and the seizure of the site by law enforcement agencies. The breach exposed thousands of records, including usernames, IP and email addresses, private messages, stored passwords, and other confidential information about its users.

These recent hacker forum data breaches serve as a stark reminder of the ever-present threat of cybercrime and the vulnerability of online platforms. It is crucial for individuals and organizations to prioritize strong password security and remain vigilant in protecting their sensitive information. The cybersecurity community continues to work tirelessly to identify and address these breaches and to develop proactive measures to prevent future incidents.
