This significant financial boost is expected to bolster the company’s ability to conduct thorough tests on both on-premises and cloud-based infrastructures, directly addressing the evolving landscape of cyber threats.

The investment round, led by NightDragon and NEA, underscores a robust interest from the investment community, according to Horizon3’s Chief Revenue Officer, Matthew Hartley. He emphasized that the funding reflects a clear recognition of the urgent needs in cybersecurity. "We’re oversubscribed on the round, which indicates that investors see tremendous value in what we are building," Hartley stated. "It highlights that we are solving a real problem, utilizing applied artificial intelligence effectively and safely to deliver substantial value to our customers."

Founded in 2019, Horizon3 has rapidly grown to employ 506 individuals and has raised close to $430 million in total funding. Remarkably, following this funding round, the company’s valuation surged to $2 billion—up from $650 million during its Series D funding in May 2025. This staggering growth reflects both the increasing demand for advanced cybersecurity solutions and Horizon3’s innovative approach under Antani’s leadership, who has an extensive background in cybersecurity and technology.

Shifting the Paradigm in Cybersecurity Testing

Horizon3 takes a unique approach by providing defenders with an attacker’s perspective, allowing them to understand which vulnerabilities can indeed be exploited and what potential damage an attacker might inflict. This shift in perspective is vital in a landscape where organizations often find themselves reacting to cyber threats rather than proactively mitigating them. Hartley also noted a collaboration with Anthropic—a firm focused on exploring how artificial intelligence can be used against infrastructures, which will further enhance Horizon3’s testing capabilities.

"Our focus is to address the critical issues surrounding infrastructure attacks. It doesn’t matter how access is initially gained; what follows is the lateral movement through the infrastructure," he explained. "We’re arguably the best in the world at understanding and testing these infrastructures, whether on-premises or cloud-based."

One of the major elements contributing to Horizon3’s efficacy is its investment of over $100 million in production safety. This entails the establishment of laboratories and testing ranges that facilitate rigorous testing without disrupting ongoing business operations. According to Hartley, part of the new funding will be allocated to further enhance these tools, ensuring that Horizon3 can demonstrate exploitability while maintaining the operational integrity of its clients’ businesses.

Catering to Modern Cybersecurity Needs

The landscape of cybersecurity is shifting, with clients increasingly demanding automated solutions rather than manual testing methods of the past. Hartley pointed out that customers now seek not just identification of vulnerabilities, but also need to ascertain which ones are exploitable. This evolution in the industry necessitates a fresh approach, one that Horizon3 claims it can deliver: "We can prove that exploit at a scale nobody else can," he asserted.

Furthermore, customers have been vocal about the necessity for enhanced web application capabilities—an aspect that has become critical in today’s digital age. By integrating this with infrastructure and identity testing, Horizon3 offers organizations a multifaceted understanding of threat landscapes, ensuring they can effectively analyze how an attacker could gain initial access through an application and what pathways may lead them to sensitive systems or data.

In today’s digital environment, attackers are becoming increasingly adept at leveraging large language models (LLMs) to swiftly analyze existing libraries, software repositories, and other datasets. "In recognition of this threat, organizations must commence with external assessments to identify exposed applications and infrastructures. Understanding exploitable flaws is pivotal in determining initial access points," Hartley advised. As adversaries utilize AI capabilities to examine multiple entry points effortlessly, the traditional methods of cyber defense must adapt.

"The challenge for our customers is that AI allows attackers to test numerous weaknesses simultaneously. The days of relying solely on human oversight are behind us," Hartley explained. As cybersecurity challenges become more complex, the industry must confront these emerging threats with scalable and sophisticated defense mechanisms that can match the pace of attackers.
