A married couple in their thirties, Somnath Sarkar and Ankita, residing in Krishnanagar, found themselves in hot water after being arrested by the police for allegedly committing a credit card fraud amounting to Rs 13.3 lakhs. The couple was apprehended in Thakurpukur by the Bidhannagar City Police after a complaint was lodged by a Salt Lake resident regarding unauthorized transactions made using his credit cards.

The victim had initially reported the fraudulent activities after discovering that Rs 13.3 lakhs had been swindled from five of his credit cards following the sudden malfunctioning of his cellphone on February 17. Upon replacing the SIM card from the telecom service provider’s store, the victim was shocked to find out about the unauthorized transactions. This led to a thorough investigation by the police, who traced the locations of the transactions and identified Somnath Sarkar and Ankita as the culprits.

The victim had encountered the accused couple during a prior meeting where they allegedly took advantage of the situation to clone the SIM card and copy the credit card details. Subsequently, Somnath and Ankita indulged in expensive purchases including jewelry, iPhones, and other high-end gadgets using the ill-gotten money. The police have managed to seize some of the purchased items and are in the process of recovering the rest. Additionally, they are delving into the couple’s past to ascertain if they have been involved in similar fraudulent activities previously.

The arrest of Somnath and Ankita has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting concerns about the security of personal information and the rise of cybercrimes in the digital age. Residents in Salt Lake and surrounding areas are being urged to exercise caution while sharing personal and financial details with acquaintances, especially in light of this incident.

As the investigation continues, the authorities are working diligently to gather more evidence against the accused couple and ensure that justice is served. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding sensitive information and being vigilant against potential threats in today’s technologically-driven society.

In recent news, concerns have been raised about the compatibility of Google Messages RCS on certain Android phones, putting users at risk of messaging issues. Additionally, fluctuations in bank credit to NBFCs and the rising trend of credit card debt are topics of discussion among financial circles, highlighting the need for regulatory measures to address these challenges effectively.
