DigiCert, a leading provider of digital trust, has made a significant move in the cybersecurity space by announcing its acquisition of Vercara from Golden Gate Capital and GIC. The deal, backed by Clearlake Capital Group, L.P., Crosspoint Capital Partners L.P., and TA Associates Management L.P., aims to enhance DigiCert’s capabilities in protecting organizations from cyberattacks.

Vercara, a prominent provider of cloud-based services specializing in managed Authoritative Domain Name System (DNS) and Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) security offerings, will now become a part of DigiCert’s portfolio. This acquisition is expected to strengthen DigiCert’s core PKI and certificate management infrastructure, adding layers of protection for organizations of all sizes.

The addition of Vercara’s UltraDNS product, an enterprise-grade managed authoritative DNS service, will bolster DigiCert’s existing offerings and provide customers with enhanced security and reliability. Vercara’s UltraDDoS Protect, UltraWAF, UltraAPI, and UltraEdge solutions will further fortify organizations’ web applications and infrastructure, ensuring a secure online experience.

Amit Sinha, CEO of DigiCert, expressed optimism about the acquisition, stating that the combination of Vercara’s talent and product suite with DigiCert’s technology and scale will offer customers a broader set of solutions to protect them at every stage and layer of online engagement. The goal is to deliver digital trust to customers by providing unified DNS and certificate management experiences.

Colin Doherty, CEO of Vercara, emphasized the synergies between the two companies, noting that the combined expertise and product portfolios will enhance Vercara’s commitment to securing the online experience and building digital trust. The collaboration aims to position customers for success in operating complex enterprises by providing comprehensive security solutions.

Industry experts also weighed in on the strategic implications of the acquisition. Todd Hinders, CEO of Edg.io, highlighted the significance of the integration of DNS and certificates in establishing trust on the internet. The streamlined certificate domain validation via UltraDNS and DigiCert’s Trust Lifecycle Manager is expected to simplify the certificate provisioning process, enhancing security posture and operational productivity.

Prashant Mehrotra, Partner at Clearlake, emphasized the importance of the acquisition in strengthening DigiCert’s technology offerings to combat the evolving cybersecurity threat landscape. The additional product offerings will enhance DigiCert’s leadership position in digital trust, providing customers with advanced security solutions.

Overall, the acquisition of Vercara by DigiCert represents a significant milestone in the company’s growth vision. The deal is expected to close this year, subject to customary closing conditions. With the combined expertise and product offerings, DigiCert is well-positioned to provide customers with comprehensive security solutions to navigate the complexities of the digital world.
