Netskope, a Silicon Valley-based SASE vendor, recently made headlines with its acquisition of Dasera, a data security posture management startup. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing data protection across various cloud environments, such as platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS).

Robert Arandjelovic, senior director of product and solutions strategy at Netskope, emphasized the significance of integrating Dasera’s capabilities into Netskope’s existing platform. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding both structured and unstructured data, as well as expanding into cloud environments seamlessly. Arandjelovic praised Dasera for its strong cultural and technological alignment with Netskope, making it easy to integrate without extensive modifications.

The acquisition of Dasera aligns with Netskope’s broader strategy of providing comprehensive data security solutions across different environments, from IaaS to unstructured data settings. Arandjelovic mentioned that this integrated approach is crucial for offering streamlined security management and consolidated policy controls to customers.

Looking ahead, Netskope plans to implement branding updates and console integration for Dasera in the short term. The focus will then shift to a deeper technological integration, bringing together Dasera’s data security posture management and Netskope’s data loss prevention capabilities into a unified platform. This integration is expected to enhance security management, streamline alerts, and provide policy controls across various security vectors.

As the security landscape evolves, the role of data security posture management (DSPM) becomes increasingly critical. Arandjelovic emphasized that DSPM will play a key role in secure access and zero trust frameworks, helping organizations gain better visibility into data flows and enforce effective data governance.

The success of the Dasera acquisition will be gauged based on the integration and adoption of DSPM capabilities across Netskope’s customer base. Arandjelovic stressed the importance of unifying DSPM and data loss prevention functionalities to create a cohesive approach to data security.

Dasera is the latest addition to a string of DSPM startups being acquired by major security and technology vendors. Netskope’s acquisition of Dasera follows previous strategic moves, including the purchase of Kadiska in 2023 to address performance issues in SD-WAN and SSE, as well as the acquisitions of WootCloud and Infiot to enhance zero trust capabilities and SD-WAN use cases.

Overall, Netskope’s acquisition of Dasera underscores the growing importance of data security in cloud environments and highlights the company’s commitment to providing robust and integrated solutions to its customers. As cybersecurity threats continue to evolve, organizations are looking to comprehensive security platforms like Netskope to safeguard their data effectively.
