Swiss Post, a prominent conglomerate based in Bern, Switzerland, has recently announced its plans to acquire Open Systems, a secure access service edge (SASE) stalwart located in Zurich. This acquisition is aimed at boosting secure communications and data protection for both public authorities and private companies in Switzerland.

The proposed acquisition of Open Systems by Swiss Post is expected to provide state-of-the-art network and security management solutions on a global scale. Open Systems, which has been majority-owned by private equity firm EQT since 2017, split its managed detection and response business into a separate entity called Ontinue last year. This move has paved the way for Swiss Post to integrate Open Systems’ expertise into its existing offerings in the cybersecurity domain.

Nicole Burth, CEO of Swiss Post Communications Services, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating that Open Systems aligns well with their cybersecurity strategy. By leveraging Open Systems’ cloud security solutions, Swiss Post aims to enhance the efficiency and security of businesses’ networks and communications in Switzerland.

Founded in 1990, Open Systems boasts a workforce of over 260 employees and made a significant acquisition of Swiss data science, AI, cloud, and cyber services provider Sqooba in January 2020. The leadership transition within Open Systems, with Daniel Neuhaus taking on the role of CEO, has been smooth, ensuring continuity and expertise in the company’s operations.

The acquisition deal is currently pending approval by the German Competition Authority, given Open Systems’ presence in Germany. If approved, all Open Systems employees will be retained, and Daniel Neuhaus will continue to lead the company. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, and both Swiss Post and Open Systems executives have refrained from providing further comments at this time.

Open Systems, known for its SASE platform, has witnessed significant growth and evolution under EQT’s ownership. The company has shifted its focus from being a managed security service provider to specializing in network transformation and cloud-based solutions. This transition has enabled Open Systems to cater to the needs of companies and organizations across more than 180 countries, safeguarding their data through seamless network and security integration.
