In a recent crackdown on cybercriminals, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police Station made a significant breakthrough by arresting 23 individuals involved in a widespread network of financial fraud schemes spread across various states in India. The operation, carried out by five specialized teams, targeted organised fraud syndicates that were exploiting digital systems to carry out their illegal activities.
The arrested suspects have been linked to a total of 30 cases in Telangana alone and a staggering 359 cases nationwide. The investigations revealed a multitude of fraudulent schemes, including investment fraud, digital arrest scams, trading fraud, APK file fraud, and job scams. The victims of these schemes collectively suffered a financial loss amounting to Rs 5.29 crore.
As part of the operation, the police were able to seize several pieces of evidence, including Rs 40,000 in cash, 25 mobile phones, 45 SIM cards, 28 bank passbooks/checkbooks, 23 debit/credit cards, one laptop, three QR code scanners, and five shell company stamps. Furthermore, the operation also led to the identification and apprehension of key individuals involved in these fraudulent activities, such as bank officials, mule account suppliers, and ringleaders.
A major breakthrough in the case came when Rs 39 lakh was refunded to victims in just three cases within a single week. These efforts not only resulted in financial recoveries for the victims but also successfully dismantled organised fraud networks, thereby ensuring justice for victims across the country.
Dara Kavitha, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Cyber Crimes in Hyderabad, issued a reminder to citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities they come across. She advised the public to be cautious when dealing with individuals or groups on social media platforms that promise high returns on investments and to be wary of unrealistic offers. Kavitha also emphasized that law enforcement agencies never ask for money to prove innocence or issue digital arrest warrants.
The successful operation carried out by the Cyber Crime Police Station in Hyderabad is a clear indication of the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat cybercrime and protect innocent victims from falling prey to fraudulent schemes.
