The cybersecurity community is buzzing with excitement as Dark Reading announces a new caption contest, offering a $25 gift card to the winner. Participants are encouraged to get creative and submit their captions before the deadline on February 12th.

One of the key questions posed to contestants is, “What motivates you? What will change how you do security?” This challenging prompt is sure to inspire a wide range of responses from security enthusiasts and professionals alike. The goal of the contest is not only to have fun and promote engagement within the cybersecurity community but also to spark thoughtful discussions about the evolving landscape of security practices.

To enter the contest, participants have four easy ways to submit their captions. They can share their ideas via social media platforms such as Bluesky, LinkedIn, Facebook, and X. Winners will be notified on the same platform where they submitted their entry and will be asked to provide their email address to receive their prize.

Last month’s winner, Paul Mauriks, an ICT security specialist at the Department of Justice and Community Safety in Victoria, Australia, impressed the judges with his caption for the “Sneaking Around” cartoon. Mauriks’ clever submission earned him the $25 gift card prize, and he was recognized for his creativity and wit. Other notable entries included captions like “I guarantee you there are no backdoors to our network” and “‘Yeah, asset disposal by ‘Back Door Inc.’ I’ll do the supplier assessment thing on Monday…’”

The Dark Reading team expressed their gratitude to all participants and commended them for their contributions to the contest. The positive response to the caption contest highlights the enthusiasm and passion within the cybersecurity community for creative challenges and opportunities to showcase their skills.

As the cybersecurity industry continues to evolve and adapt to new threats and challenges, contests like these provide a fun and engaging way for professionals to stay connected and informed. By fostering a sense of community and camaraderie, Dark Reading aims to encourage collaboration and innovation among security experts worldwide.

With the current contest underway and new submissions pouring in, the cybersecurity community is eagerly anticipating the announcement of the next winner. As the deadline approaches, participants are encouraged to put their thinking caps on and submit their most creative and compelling captions for a chance to win the coveted prize.
