India and the United States have taken a significant step in strengthening their cooperation in fighting cybercrimes by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will allow both countries to enhance their security cooperation and address threats from terrorism and violent extremism. The MoU was signed by Indian ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, and Kristie Canegallo, the acting United States deputy secretary of homeland security (DHS). In India, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the ministry of home affairs will oversee the implementation of the MoU, while on the US side, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its constituent agencies—US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Homeland Security Investigations Cyber Crimes Centre (C3)—will be responsible for collaboration.
