The recent INTERPOL Remote Access data breach has been claimed by a relatively unknown threat actor known as NET-WORKER ALLIANCE. The group made their claim on a secretive dark web channel, providing a screenshot of the compromised INTERPOL Remote Access website and a check-host link to verify their successful breach.

The motive behind this attack remains unclear, but it is worth noting that NET-WORKER ALLIANCE has previously carried out cyberattacks on critical institutions in Poland. In these attacks, they targeted institutions such as the Warsaw Stock Exchange, Warsaw Chopin Airport, PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, and Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. These attacks raised concerns as they targeted vital financial and transportation hubs in Poland. However, the true intentions of NET-WORKER ALLIANCE remain unknown.

In addition to the INTERPOL breach, NET-WORKER ALLIANCE has also claimed responsibility for targeting the website of Europol in a separate attack. Similar to their approach with INTERPOL, they provided an image of the EUROPOL website and a check-host link to substantiate their claims.

This incident is not the first time INTERPOL has been targeted by cybercriminals. In the past, they reported phishing attacks in which malicious actors used INTERPOL’s name to deceive victims into divulging sensitive information. INTERPOL has made it clear that they never directly contact members of the public, request money, or solicit bank details or funds transfers. They have warned the public to be vigilant against scams that misuse their name, as these fraudulent activities are designed to deceive individuals into sending money to scammers.

These scams have taken various forms, with perpetrators even impersonating INTERPOL’s Secretary General, Jürgen Stock, in an attempt to intimidate victims. INTERPOL has emphasized that they do not maintain databases of hacked individuals or issue any form of authorization letter related to unlocking funds.

As the investigation into the INTERPOL Remote Access data breach continues, organizations and individuals must prioritize cybersecurity practices to safeguard their digital assets and personal information. It is crucial to remain vigilant against phishing scams and to verify the legitimacy of any requests or communications claiming to be from reputable organizations like INTERPOL.
